Chris East, Communications Coordinator/Career Advisor for University of Wisconsin’s College of Letters & Sciences needed a new way of sending communications to the 15,000 students his office serves.
Chris says his team was spending four to seven hours a week putting together a weekly email for students. “We had to guess what they wanted. We would spend a lot of time in the analytics, trying to figure out what to send. Then we’d have to generate all of the content.”
Chris went looking for a simple solution to save time and to help them engage students with real opportunities; he found Cerkl.
In the 2016-17 school year, L&S career services boasted a 92% open rate thanks to an analytics-driven strategy that values good content.
The L&S Career Services Cerkl uses external news sources to share advice, tips and opportunities with their students. “Cerkl does the search for me, pulling in relevant articles from trusted sources that resonate with our students. It saves me so much time,“ Chris said.
With barriers to sharing removed, staff is more engaged in generating and curating great stories for the L&S newsletter. “Staff is always thinking about what content will work well in Cerkl,” Chris said. “They give me great articles to share.”
Now each student is receiving personalized advice and career opportunities in their inbox. “The messages are creative, more engaging and personalized. Students enjoy the tips,” Chris reports. “We’ve had no unhappy customers or students. The only opt-outs we’ve had are students who got jobs.”
